Weekend Getaways From Ludhiana to Rishikesh
Tourists have a knack of travelling to important destinations where they can have sightseeing places to visit and also enjoy the serene surroundings. Although, beaches, hill stations, backwaters, religious monuments, historical sites, etc are more prominently figured in the locations to visit, many people also make it a point to go for the pilgrimage tours to cities in India, with huge religious significance. One of such cities in India is that of Rishikesh, which is located in the state of Uttaranchal or Uttarakhand. This religious city is situated in the Himalayan foothills, at the point where the river ganges flows down the Garhwal Himalayan peaks. Having a place in the mythological history of India, the city of Rishikesh is well known for the impression of being a city of temples and a hugely popular pilgrimage site for devotees of Lord Vishnu. Historically, this place means the Lord of the Senses, which is a term describing the great Lord Vishnu. Mention of the place has been found in Skanda Purana, depicting the appearance of Lord Vishnu under the mango tree in this city. Some of the anecdotes also have put the term of Agni Tirth to the city of Rishikesh.
The settlement of Rishikesh is around the river Ganges, on both sides and presently, the township of Rishikesh is growing up gradually to become a commercial centre and a business hub, apart from being well established as a site of pilgrimage. Plenty of ashrams are possible to be found in the city limits as well as in the suburbs and many temples dedicated primarily to Lord Vishnu and also other Hindu gods and goddesses. History has a lot of anecdotes related to the town of Rishikesh and Haridwar, which is located about 20 kms away. The most important structure that is related with Indian mythology, especially the Ramayana is that of the Lakshmana Jhula, which was constructed by Lakshman, the younger brother of Lord Rama, in order to cross the river Ganga. In today’s era, this bridge has been constructed into a suspension bridge used by people, which was destroyed a number of times during floods. Besides the historical significances, the city of Rishikesh is well known in the world arena for the various yoga learning centres, run by ashrams and accomplished yogis. It is sometimes termed as the world capital of yoga. Tourists from different areas in north india arrive here for their weekend getaways from Ludhiana to Rishikesh and find all these features to be quite interesting and attractive.

By air, tourists can arrive in Rishikesh through the flights which land at the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, which is about 15 kms away. Sightseeing places
In the town of Rishikesh, the tourists on weekend getaways from Ludhiana to Rishikesh can move around and visit a number of religious places as well as locations of historic importance. Since the river Ganges is considered to be the holiest of the rivers in India, devotees coming to Rishikesh take a dip in the holy ganga, especially at the sites of various Ghats in the banks. Triveni Ghat is one of the most popular bathing ghats in the city, where maha aarti is being performed. Swarg Ashram is a beautiful monument in the backdrop of the picturesque Himalayan ranges, located in the left bank of the ganges, between the Lakshman Jhula and Himalayas. It is considered to be the epicentre of spirituality as many sadhus and babas are known to meditate and attain yogic postures in this location. Trayambakeshwar Temple is a well known shiva temple in Rishikesh , built 13 stories high and is a must visit place in the pilgrimage town. Various ashrams dot the landscape of the town, such as Parmarth Niketan, where students are imparted education on the Vedas and many religious ceremonies are carried out in this place.

But still sweet dishes and vegetarian items are available in plenty, so that tourists can have the fill of their palate, in whichever restaurant they visit.
