Weekend Getaways From Chandigarh to Shimla
Shimla has become a hotbed of holidaying in India and is visited by thousands of tourists from different parts of the country. Located in the northern part of India, it is also the capital city of Himachal Pradesh, where the britishers had their initial influence by making it their summer capital. Built from a conglomeration of 19 hill states, it was having a major interest among the britishers. They not only built up the area as a tourist destination, but added a number of beautiful buildings in the region in the Tudorbethan and neogothic architectural style. Prior to the British accession, there had been the presence of local tribes and clans in the region, although history of its capture by Nepalese rulers have been documented. Tourists coming in flights can land in the Jubbarhatti airport in Shimla itself, about 22 kms from the main city centre. Only smaller aircrafts are possible to be landed in this airport, although regular flight services are found to Chandigarh and Delhi, from where travel to Shimla is quite easy by road.
