Bageshwar
Overview of Bageshwar
Bageshwar is home to many ancient temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. This is found in the district with the same name - Bageshwar in Uttarakhand state. This is a holy town that is situated at the place where the sacred rivers of Sarayu and Gomti intersect. The town of Bageshwar is considered to be very holy by the Hindu devotees as they believe that this place is immensely blessed by Lord Shiva himself. Bageshwar is covered by the holy peaks of Bhileshwar and Nileshwar on its east and west and by Suraj Khund and Agni Kund on its north and south corners respectively.
History of Bageshwar
Bageshwar is the epitome of religious significance in the entire state of Uttarakhand. The mythological puranas of India have stressed that Bageshwar had the power to wash away the sins of the people who come here, which is why even today, millions of Hindu devotees come to the Bagnath temple every year. This temple that was constructed during 14th century by Lakshmi Chand is overcrowded during the festival of Shivarathri.
Geographical location
Bageshwar in the Uttarakhand state is at a height of 1004m or 3294 feet above sea level. It is located at 29.85 degrees towards the North and 79.77 degrees towards the East.

Air- Pantnagar Airport, at a distance of 180km, is the nearest to Bageshwar.
Rail – Kathgodam Railway station, at a distance of 160km, is the nearest to Bageshwar.
Road – Bageshwar is well connected with the main districts of Uttarakhand like Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Almora, Champawat and many more and other neighbouring states by a frequent network of buses and taxis.

Tourist attractions and things to do
Bagnath Temple is the main Lord Shiva shrine of Bageshwar. The other temples that are in the vicinity of this place are Chandika, Nileshwar, Gopeswhar, Ram Ghat, Shitla Devi, Hanuman, Trijugi Narayan, Kukuda Mai, Jwala Devi and Agni Kund. Loknath Ashram, Amitji Ashram and Radha Krishna temple, Veni Mahadev temple, Suraj Kund, Praktishwar Mahadev and Golu Temple are some of the other places nearby. Kanda and Pindari Glacier offer a brilliant view of the majestic Himalayas. Apart from trekking and pilgrimage, there are no major activities that tourists can do here.
