Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary
Spread across 29 sq km, Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary is a world heritage site located near Bharatpur in Rajasthan. Also called as Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary this place is considered to be the best and biggest waterfowl bird sanctuary of the world. Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary Bharatpur is home to native nesting birds, waterside birds and migratory water birds.
Bharatpur Bird Sanctuaryis also home to numerous mammals like chital, boar, nilgai and sambar. Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary Bharatpur may be the only manmade wildlife reserve in the world. During 1760’s Ajan Dam was constructed by the Maharaja of Bharatpur to protect the town from annual flooding. The depression created after the digging of mud for constructing the dam turned into a lake and later become the site for Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary Bharatpur. The city was developed as a National Park on 10th March 1982 and was declared as world heritage site in 1985.
