Reiek
A look into Reiek
Situated at a short distance of around 12 km from the capital of Mizoram, Aizawl, it is visited by many tourists all through the year due to its pleasant climate. When there is not much of fog around this hill station, tourists can view the neighbouring country of Bangladesh from the hill top. As tourists come near this place, the first thing that strikes them is the lush green landscapes and the dense cover of nature.
History of Reiek
Reiek is a small hill station in Mizoram and it is situated at a height of 1548 m above sea level and gives an excellent view of the capital city of Aizawl. One of the most characteristic features of Reiek is that it houses a village that is modelled on the basis of typical customs and traditions of the Mizo tribal people. There is a hut, dormitory and all other features that are seen usually in the homes of Mizo tribes. However, in the recent past, there have been lots of developments in this village and many houses have come up in this area. The management of this Mizo village is done by the Tourism Department of Mizoram. These villages have been set up to show case the beauty and rich history of Reiek to the world.

Reiek is a hill station that is situated quite close to Aizawl at a distance of about 12 km. This hill station is at the easternmost corner of Mizoram and is a huge tourist attraction for the international and Indian tourists who come here in large numbers, especially during summer season.
How to reach Reiek and local modes of transport
Air – The airport at Aizawl which is at a distance of 17 km from Reiek is the closest to this hill station.
Rail – Bairabi Railway Junction at Mizoram, which is located at a distance of 62km from Reiek, is the nearest rail station.
Bus – There are lots of public sector and private sector buses that ply between Aizawl and Reiek every day.
Local modes of transport – Buses operated by the transport department of the state government are the only options to travel within Reiek.
Attractions near Reiek
The hill station is visited by large numbers every year during the Anthurium Festival. This is when, true to the typical Mizo style, the Anthurium flowers are arranged in a spectacular design to attract the tourists who come here from far across the globe. This festival is funded by the Central Government and is an important promotional activity by the tourism department to encourage the inflow of tourists to the place. Since Reiek is situated within the dense forest areas, there is no dearth of wildlife here. Various exotic varieties of birds that exclusively reside in the hilly areas can be witnessed here.

Trekking, walking through the forest, bird-watching and shopping are few activities that can be done when tourists come to Reiek.

The resort maintained by the Tourism Department of Mizoram houses a restaurant that serves excellent food and typical of the Eastern side, pork delicacies garnished with the local spices and herbs are a must-try in this restaurant.
