Overview of Udumbanchola
Udumbanchola is the largest Taluk in the south Indian state of Kerala. Situated in the scenic Idukki district, this hill station is visited by many tourists all through the year. The headquarters and capital of the Taluk of Udumbanchola is Nedumkandam. Mathikettan Shola National Park is the major tourist attraction of this place. There are lots of tall mountain ranges that are surrounded on all the sides of Udumbanchola, which makes it a preferred tourist spot.
Mathikettan means a person who has a confused mind. The National Park at Udumbanchola has got this name because tourists who go inside this park get confused about their exit route. Elephants are the main inhabitants of this park and it was given the status of “Reserve Forest” as early as the 18th century. It came to be recognised formally as a “National Park” only during 2003.
