A few kilometres of distance needs to be travelled for going to these nearby locations around Delhi and towards the south of Delhi, there is the holy city of Vrindavan, and one of the ancient towns, with huge number of devotees coming in hordes everyday for the view of the revered deity Lord Vishnu. Throughout the year, some or the other function is going on in the city at different centres.
History
Vrindavan is a historic town, which is situated along the forests of Vrindavan, where it is said that Lord Krishna spent his childhood and most of the sights are depicting these playful events of Krishna’s childhood. River Yamuna flows by this beautiful town. Another reason for the name of Vrindavan is the profuse amounts of Vrinda or Tulsi plants which grow along the city outskirts. Throughout the town of Vrindavan are various temples and holy centres, which are related with Krishna Worship. The entire greenery and the lushful forested regions in Vrindavan make it a peaceful place for the visitors. It is a serene place for the weekend getaways from Delhi to Vrindavan, where the tourists find themselves immersed in the fervent chants of Lord Krishna and his innumerable stories. Every nook and corner of the city is having representations of the lord in different forms. With years passing by, and many visitors coming here, there have been many settlements, which are gradually growing as people are finding houses to live in this peaceful abode. In this Gokul Dham, people find immense peace and frequently arrive from different parts of the country for their enchanting stay for a few days for their weekend trips from various regions in and around Vrindavan and Uttar Pradesh.
Reaching there
The city of Vrindavan is situated about 150 kms from Delhi, towards the southern direction. Mathura, which is also well known like Vrindavan for Lord Krishna is about 12 kms and has the nearest railway station. It is also possible to travel from Mathura towards Vrindavan by road by taking a taxi or autorickshaw. From Agra, one can travel around 50 kms to reach Vrindavan. A visit to Vrindavan is possible if tourists go for the travel on the golden Triangle of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. People can usually take a weekend getaway from Delhi to Vrindavan because it is situated in the Agra-Delhi highway, which is quite a comfortable drive.
Lots of trains in Uttar Pradesh as well as from the northern side arrive here for the benefit of the passengers. By air, the nearest international airport is at New Delhi, which is at a distance of 142 kms, which can be travelled by Volvo and deluxe buses from Delhi or one can travel by private taxis or cabs, directly from Delhi, which is therefore not a problem, for people who wish to travel from Delhi to Vrindavan.
Accommodations
While in Vrindavan, visitors can have accommodations in the picturesque locations, in the hotels, which range from low cost budget hotels to the star hotels. Since most of the visitors are devotees for the temples and the Vrindavan Dham, the budget hotels are in high demand. Very few luxury hotels and resorts can be found in the city, but they are worth the money for the tourists, who wish to enjoy the spiritual massage and spa and salon facilities in these star hotels. Some of the important hotels, which offer accommodations at budget costs are MVT Guesthouse, The Subham Hotel, Hotel Basera, etc. These provide ample fooding and lodging facilities and have the best accommodations that one can find in this peaceful and greenery holy place of Vrindavan.
Famous sightseeing places
Since Vrindavan is one of the sacred towns in India, it is obvious that most of the sightseeing places would be related to religious places or temples. In fact, lots of temples are present in the city which are quite famous and given a darshan by the tourists.
Krishna Balaram Mandir is known as the ISKCON temple in the place, which draws Krishna devotees from far and wide.
Govinda Dev Mandir was built long back in 1590 and it is a huge and bulky temple, where monkey sightings are very common.
Kesi Ghat is a sacred place near Yamuna, which is believed to be the place where Krishna is said to have killed the demon Kesi. Every evening, on this Ghat, thousands of lamps are lit in reverence to the gods.
Rangji Mandir, is supposedly one of the largest in the Vrindavan, which was built in a South Indian Style, way back in 1851 and architectural is quite beautiful with seven storey gopuram and there is a large wooden chariot of about 50 feet, while the inner courtyard has a Dhwaja Stambha plated with gold.
There are many other temples which can be visited by the tourists such as Banke Bihari Temple, Jaipur Temple, Radha Madhav Temple, Garud Govind Temple, and few others.
Apart from moving around the temples, tourists can visit the sites which are associated with the live stories of lord Krishna from his playful days. Kusuma Sarovar, Kaliya Ghat, Shrine of Devraha baba, etc are places where the tourists can go about during their weekend getaways from Delhi to Vrindavan.
Moving around
There are many other temples which can be seen when going after a distance from Vrindavan, but the temples inside are sufficient to have a thorough look at the revered sites. Boating in the Yamuna is an option that can be exercised by people, if they are interested.
Best season to visit
Since Vrindavan is in the central lands, there are extremes of climate. So, summers can be quite hot as well as humid while winters can be quite cold. But, to have the comfortable visit from different locations, the weather of winter is the best time. Hence, one can have the weekend getaways from Delhi to Vrindavan, mostly in the months from October to March, without having to suffer from the heat and humidity. Monsoon is not the right time, but nature lovers can find the greenery and freshness all around quite beautiful, provided they are travelling on a vehicle.
Commuting locally
Getting around in the city of Vrindavan can sometimes be quite hectic due to continuous rush of people into the city. There are rickshaws and auto rickshaws which are the best modes of going around. Many places are possible to be walked along, but cycle rickshaws are the best places to move about.
Food joints
Due to the temple city, most of the hotels serve vegetarian diet, which are prepared in ghee and can be quite heavy. Although tiffins and roadside vendors are also found, it is best to have the food in local restaurants and eateries. Some famous veg restaurants are found in the city of Vrindavan, which serve delicious food items and sweetmeats.
With all the vibrant and reverence heard about the city of Vrindavan, people should be aware of temple scams and the heavy demands of money from the promises of darshan. Also, a menace of monkeys is to be looked out for as the area has been having lots of monkeys since time immemorial. Most of the information about these weekends for the Vrindavan can be obtained at Smart Musafir, although people should look out for their own choices of stays, moving around and passing their time. But, for weekend getaways from Delhi to Vrindavan, the trips can be quite enjoyable, especially if people are having their own personal vehicles and are already known about the location.
