Lot of people are going out for weekend getaways from Chandigarh to Jaipur, so that they can enjoy the sightseeing places in Jaipur, which is one of the most visited tourist cities in India and forms an important part of the Golden Triangle packages, comprising of Delhi and Agra. Jaipur is a city, which is well known for its forts and palaces and the myriad lakes that are found in the region, having been built since the era of the Rajput kings in the period between 16th and 18th century. The city of Jaipur, owes its origin to the founder Maharaja Jai Singh II belonging to the Kucchwaha Rajput dynasty. He was a famous warrior and astronomer, who built the planned city of Jaipur, which has now becoming a beautiful city and is having a lot of sightseeing places of historic and beauty significance. It is also one of India’s top cities with rapid development with lots of projects and industrial set ups. It is also known as Pink City, due to the typical colour of the buildings, because of the use of red sandstone in most of these structures.
Maharaja Jai Singh II, ruled from the Amber Fort, which was built by his ancestors, from where he expanded the city and the present town of Jaipur came into existence, designed by a Bengal architect, on the lines of Shilpa Shastra. Although there were a lot of squabbles for power, the rajput kings had the region under their control, until the time of the British invasion, when it also went into their control. To provide adequate water supply, there was the formation of Ramgarh Lake and in the 19th and 20th century many official buildings were constructed. In the year 1956, the city of Jaipur was declared as the capital city of the state of Rajasthan.
