Rudraprayag
Overview about Rudraprayag
There are five places that are identified as Panch Prayags in the country. These spots are where the Rivers Alaknanda and Mandakini intersect. These are considered to be very holy spots and Rudraprayag in the Uttarakhand state is one of them. One of the main pilgrimage spots for Hindus, Kedarnath is just about 90km from here. Rudraprayag, in the olden days was also famous for the presence of the leopard that ate human beings. Jim Corbett, one of the famous residents of this area, has written a lot about the ferociousness of this leopard. During the devastating floods of 2013, Rudraprayag was deeply impacted as almost half of the place was washed away and transport connectivity to this place took a major hit. This place stands at 895m above sea level and is visited by thousands of pilgrims every year.
History of the place
It was during 1997 that the district of Rudraprayag was formed from three sections of the state, those are: Chamoli, Pauri and Tehri.
