Mainpat
History and Overview of Mainpat
Mainpat is a quiet and serene village in the North Indian state of Chhattisgarh. It is known for the huge number of Tibetan population here who migrated to this place many centuries ago. Due to the presence of many Tibetan people and Tibetan monasteries in this place, this place is commonly known as the Mini Tibet of India. This place is today located at a place where, there were around 62 plateaus earlier. This area was almost barren when the Tibetans came here as refugees in the earlier days. Gradually, they started building huts and other residential areas as they began to settle down here. The remote village is today reasonably developed mainly because of these refugees. People from Tibet have been residing in this areas for about half a century now.
Geographical location
Mainpat is a tiny village in Chhattisgarh state. It is located at 22.80 degrees towards the North and 83.26 degrees towards the East, at a height of 1100m or about 3200 feet above sea level.

Air – Ranchi Airport, at a distance of 236km, is the nearest to Mainpat.
Rail – Ambikapur Railway Station, at a distance of 43km, is the nearest to Mainpat.
Road – There are lots of government and private sector buses that operate between Mainpat and the big cities of Chhattisgarh and the nearby states.
Local transport – Driving down in own cars and trekking long some of the remote trails are the ways to commute within Mainpat.
Tourist Attractions and things to do
Tiger Point (place that contains many tigers), Fish Point (known for specific kind of fish), beautiful waterfalls of Milky Way, innumerable religious Buddhist monasteries and the plateaus are some of the major tourist attractions near Mainpat. Travellers who come here can go for trekking in some of the excellent trails, engage in wildlife viewing and sight-seeing activities when they come to Mainpat.
Places to eat and local cuisine
The area between camps 1 and 2 contains a few good eateries that taste heavenly yet reasonably priced. These shops specialise in the local delicacies like momos, Chow Mein and Thukpa.
