Overview of Manjolai Hills
Manjolai is known as “Kodaikanal of Tirunelveli” because of the mist covered hills it houses. These peaks are at different height levels, hovering around the 1000-1500m range. These are great trekking spots and tourists who have an eye for adventure must visit this place. Located deep into the Western Ghats, Manjolai Hills is an excellent tourist spot as just beneath these hills, one can find the effervescent Manimutharu Waterfalls and Dam. The Tiger Reserve at Kalakad Mundanthurai is also quite nearby to this place. This place has everything in it to cater to the diverse needs and preferences of the tourists. A beautiful point called Kuthiravett from where one can experience an excellent aerial view of Tirunelveli district is one of the hot spots of Manjolai hills.
While speaking about Manjolai Hills, one cannot help describing the awesome tea plantations that are found here. Managed by the Bombay Burma Trading Corporation Limited, these tea plantations are visited in large numbers by international and domestic tourists who come here. The 3 main tea estates here are those of Manjolai, Manimutharu and Oothu. The average height of these estates is anywhere between 2300 and 4200 feet and is the main attractive feature of these plantations.

Air – Tuticorin airport, at a distance of 223km, is the closest to Manjolai.

Situated at about 57km away from the main Tirunelveli district, Manjolai Hills is an important tourist destination in South India. The small peaks here hidden deep inside the dense forests have a lot of tourist spots nearby like the Manimutharu Dam, Manimutharu Waterfalls, Tiger Reserves at Kalakad Mundanthurai and last, but not the least, the lush tea estates of Manjolai. Trekking, wildlife safari and nature walks through the forests are the some of the main activities that tourists can do here. Tourists who come here must definitely buy some tea packets while they go back to their places as the tea tastes great here.

Hotel Alankar and Annai Chicken are some of the good places to eat near Manimutharu because Manjolai Hills does not have any good restaurants or accommodation options. Tourists have to carry fruits and water with them when they go for a trekking trip to Manjolai. Good places to stay are Hotel RAAMS Parks and Hotel Sakunthala International. These are budget hotels and are located at a minimum distance of 20km away from Manimutharu. Local specialities like Vatha Kuzhambu, padaneer, Ambai chicken kuzhambu etc. are must-eat dishes here.
