Idukki district of Kerala was formed on 26th January 1972 and is known for its mountainous hills and dense forests. Idukki district consists of Devikulam, Udumbanchola and Peermedu taluks. The Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary extends over the Thodupuzha and Udumpanchola taluka of Idukki district. The Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over an area of 77 sq km and is about 450-748 m above sea level. It is one of the most beautiful and flora and fauna rich wildlife in Kerala.
Marayoor: It is 40 km away from Munnar. Idukki sightseeing is worth a visit because it is the only place in Kerala which has natural growth of sandal wood trees. It is also an important Idukki tourism attraction because of relics of new Stone Age civilization have been unearthed here.
