Overview of Khajjar
Khajjar is a small hill station located in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. It is known for its serene ambience, deep and silent valleys, placid lakes, snow-clad Himalayan peaks. Sprawling lush and green meadows, thick forest covers of pine, fire and deodar trees and clean, unpolluted air prove to be the characteristic features of Khajjar. This hill station is located at the foot hills of the Dhauladhar Himalayan ranges. Khajjar belongs to the Kalatop Khajjar Sanctuary, which is one of the often visited spots in this hill-station.
Khajjar got a huge fillip in its tourism department during 1992, when Switzerland’s Vice Counsellor and Chancery Head, Mr. Willy Blazer visited Khajjar and gave the place, the title of “Mini Switzerland”. This tagline brought instant fame to this place and make many countries all over the globe, sit up and take note of Khajjar. A hiking footpath here has been given a sign by him and the distance between Khajjar and the capital of Switzerland, Berne of 6194km is clearly expressed here. There are around 160 countries in the world that bear striking resemblance to Switzerland in terms of geography and Khajjar is one of them. Today, the Parliament of Switzerland has a stone from Khajjar inscribed into its building to stress about the similarity of Khajjar and the Swiss country.
