An overview of Pfutsero
Pfutsero is known for its spine-chilling climate. It is the coldest place in Nagaland and during winters the temperature drops to well below zero degrees Celsius. October to April is the best time to visit this place as this is when the place is vibrant with festivities that accompany the harvest season, Christmas and New Year celebrations. The markets of this hill station are replete with shops selling different kinds of articles during the season of Christmas and New Year. Every year, from 24th to 27th April, the harvest festival of Tsukhenye is celebrated with huge fervour here. Agriculture is the mains source of livelihood for people living here the main crop that is cultivated is rice.
History of Pfutsero
Legend has it that the first section of the Naga tribal people, who were instrumental for the state of Nagaland getting its name, lived in the town of Pfutsero. Almost all the people living here are Christians with a majority of them being Baptists. There are also small sections of people who are Roman Catholics, Revivalists and Pentecost. Situated right at the centre of the Phek district, Pfutsero is an important business town with lots of commercial establishments being set up here ever since the olden days. Today, people belonging to Chokri and Khezha tribal sect make up for the majority of the population. Pfutsero has the credit of housing the most ancient Theological College of Nagaland, which is the Baptist Theological College. This has a great reputation in the outside world.

Pfutsero is located at a distance of 70km from Nagaland’s capital, Kohima. It is exactly located in the district of Phek in Nagaland at a height of 2133 m above sea level.

Rail – Rangapaphar at a distance of 70km, Dimapur at a distance of 76km and Guwahati at a distance of around 295km from this place are the nearby railway stations.
Road – Lots of private and public sector buses operate between Kohima and Pfutsero every day with a great deal of frequent network.
Local modes of transport – State-run local buses operate within Pfutsero, but since this is a small area, travelling by foot is the best way to explore the place.

Zunheboto – This is small hill station at a height of 1874m above sea level and is hugely visited by tourist for the spectacular view it offers them of the Nagaland state.
Saramati Mountain – Brushing past the border of India and Myanmar, Saramati Mountain is Nagaland’s tallest peak at a whopping height of 11523 feet.
The bird sanctuary at Ghosu and hill ranges of Satoi, are other tourist attractions in Pfutsero. Trekking, bird-watching, forest walks and shopping are some of the things that tourists can do while they are here.
