Didihat
Overview of Didihat
Didihat is a silent and less-explored hill station in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. An ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva or Bholenath is one of the major landmarks of Didihat. The plains of Digtarh hills lie above Didihat while the Charamgad River flows beneath this place. Didihat is a place that is replete with exotic species of flora that pulls many a nature lover to it. The snow-clad peaks of Panchchuli and Trishuli Peaks are clearly visible from Didihat. Another important factor about Didihat is that it is located on the route that leads to the ultimate pilgrimage destination of Kailash Mansarovar.
History of Didihat
During 14th century, Didihat came under the control of the prestigious Chand dynasty who defeated Raika rulers who were ruling this place till then. The remnants of the forts and temples that are found in Didihat today, speak volumes of the impressive rule of the Chand rulers. Didihat is named thus, to denote a small hillock. A hillock was all that this place had in the earlier days. It slowly developed into a small hill station and became famous because of the presence of many other hot tourist destinations in its vicinity.
Geographical location
Didihat is situated in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, at a height of 1725m or 5659feet above sea level. It is located at 29.97 degrees towards the North and 80.15 degrees towards the East.
How to reach and local transport
Air – Pantnagar Airport, at a distance of 229km, is the closest to Didihat.
Rail – Kathgodam and Tanakpur railway stations, at a distance of 195km and 198km respectively, are the nearest railway stations to Didihat.
Road – All the major places in Kumaon division, Uttarakhand and nearby states are well connected with Didihat. There are also taxis and local buses from the airport and railway stations to Didihat.
Local transport – Trekking is the only option to go around Didihat.
Tourist Attractions and things to do
Malaynath or Lord Shiva temple at Sirakot, Wildlife and Bird Sanctuary at Askot and Narayan Swami Ashram are some of the major tourist attractions here. Trekking, wildlife viewing and bird-watching are some of the activities for tourists who come to Didihat.

Om Restaurant is a place that is closest to Didihat. Being a religious place, non-vegetarian food is available only rarely here. The vegetarian delicacies of Roti, Dalma, moong dhal papad and desserts like Kulfi are must-try dishes here.
